I was born and raised in Manhattan in an area called the DMZ; the boundary between Spanish Harlem and the rest of the world. I Became a Heroin user at 15, and a homeless addict at 16 (just short of 17). I lived in the streets of Manhattan; Subways, Central Park, and abandoned buildings in S.Harlem. Consequently, I never finished HS. I "Cleaned-up" at 27; entered College (without HS Diploma). The High School I attended burned down before the advent of computers so my records literally, went up in smoke! I went on to Medical School in 1984 without completing my degree, being granted early admission. I was re-addicted to narcotics in 1987 following surgery. I completed my MD in 1988. I completed Anesthesiology Residency in 1994. After accepting a position at St. Joesph's Hospital in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, I was arrested and sent to prison for narcotics diversion 1996. I subsequently lost my license to practice Medicine in 1997, and spent a total of 34 months incarcerated on a sentence of 10 to 23 months. During the first year in Prison I became one of the subjects of a 20/20 broadcast which was filmed in the Warden's office. Such are the vicissitudes of life.
